Bill Moyers Journal - Andrew J. Bacevich

Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 03:40:34 AM PDT

If you missed the PBS Bill Moyers Journal, this past friday night, or if not on your local PBS station, this is an Interview that should be seen, absorbed and discussed!

For Retired Army Colonel Andrew J. Bacevich, Conservative, lays out, very clearly, the wrong direction this country has set it's course on which is leading it towards destruction or a meaningless society as others fill the void of the real World Leadership!

Meet Randy Scheunemann; McCain's foreign policy disaster

To piggyback on sphilk's fine diary here:

I'd like to keep the full court press on the Scheunemann Effect because I believe this information needs to come fast and furious with many, many ad buys to follow.  I prepared the diary yesterday but was unable to post it due to rules & regs but will do so today in the spirit of getting the truth out until the media, the Obama Campaign, the 527's or all of these groups take notice.

Who Got Drunk?

Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 11:35:40 AM PDT

Hasn't America been in a perpetual state of drunkenness since Reagan was elected by virtue of the Iranian hostage crisis?

Bush says Wall Street ‘got drunk’

President George W. Bush said Wall Street had "got drunk" and was experiencing a hangover at a recent closed-door fundraiser in Houston in which he also made light of the US housing crisis....

Calif. = Power, Money but where's the Water? (corrections and updates)

Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 06:18:35 PM PDT

Why in the world would a Californian environmental preservation, governmental entity, supported by the likes of the Sierra Club, the Metropolitan Water District, funded by billions of tax dollars, want to destroy the environment?  Maybe that is a stupid question. This 'agency' is powered by people without ANY science background or have mis-matched backgrounds for the job. You ask, how much damage can an ‘environmental agency’ with people filled with 'ideals' (perhaps, ambition) but, with no oversight, do?

There are three projects in Southern California of similar focus, supporters, design, two of which have been massive financial failures. Two projects are associated with dams in L.A. All three projects are FOR THE CHILDREN. Two are about water and all were supported by the water agencies and governmental environmental groups. One related project, a colossal reservoir built by one of the agencies, may negatively impact S. California’s water supply in this drought emergency. One project is in the planning and public relations stage where disaster can still be averted. All of the projects are museums, one in Hemet, one in Sunland and one in Whittier Narrows.

The lesson - where there is lots of money and no oversight, things go very badly – like Katrina.

Drain America First w/poll

Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 08:57:44 AM PDT

Simple title - simple explanation. The problem with the "let's drill everything, everywhere" is that we are, as always, saying "screw our grandkids, we want it now."

Let's look at the arguments for and against:

  1. Drilling everything, everywhere creates greater infrastructure needs - look, if you take one bucket at a time out of the well, you only need one bucket. if you take five buckets at a time from a limited resource, you end up over investing in buckets and you have less time to build another well.
  1. If we are wrong and there is a lot more oil in the world, cool - oil prices really tank. If we are right and there is less oil, you just extended the amount of time the US has domestic reserves.
  1. The cost of oil has gone up because of devaluation of the dollar - based mainly on the US deficit. Tax breaks to incentivize new drilling help this problem - how?

July 4th Independence Day 2008

Fri Jul 04, 2008 at 01:52:44 AM PDT

Many are declaring that they are independents this year, most as a protest because (gasp) a black man defeated their candidate who happened to be the first woman presidential candidate, at least one for a major party. (If anyone else had been their candidate there would be cries of racism but hey these so called Democrats are not bigots, they would never stoop to racist remarks, but supporting a Black man for President is going a bit to far).

How do these so called declarations of independence compare to that one 221 years ago?

Independence Day
By David Glenn Cox

There is nothing new under the sun, the murder of Caesar or the shots in Dallas. Conspiracies demand either victims or adherents. You’re either with us or agin us, sound familiar? We must all hang together or certainly we shall all hang separately. Ah, but that’s the point entirely! To hang you separately! You, who toil for a living, to educate children or deliver bread, or drive a beer truck or embalm the dead, all separated like the fingers on a hand.

Wal-Mart Kicks an Injured Cop When He is Down

Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 01:29:05 PM PDT

You might think that Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott learned a lesson from the beating he took a few months ago in the media over the Deborah Shank case, but you'd be wrong. Wal-Mart now seems determined to keep disability benefits from all Americans, not merely its own employees. To make matters worse, the company has chosen to start its campaign with an injured police officer.

News or Entertainment?

Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 11:06:06 AM PDT

These days, in the quest for ratings and money, some news programs cease to be factual.

The FCC should look into this. Fox News is a misnomer. It should be called Fox Entertainment or The Republican Channel or Fox Rumors, but it does not qualify as a news channel.

The Constitution and rule of law as a wedge issue

Thu Jun 19, 2008 at 07:20:48 PM PDT

Plain and simple.. It is apparent in the continued presence of the president unindicted and unimpeached.. The war raging, Torture unopposed..Etc... Nothing they have done has got our country back on track..

I am cynical enough to understand what is going on.. Some members of the Democratic party know its about the money.. About the perpetual election cycle... This War has been good for them.. The torture has been good for them, the shredding of the Constitution has been good for them.. They get more money, it flows it when I get an email from me for thinking they are going to stop it all.. But it continues..  The most egregious crimes in my lifetime in the presidency and governance of the united states has continued.. And why?? Because it’s good for the bottom line..

If you do not like my rant that’s fine... I am no troll. I have been here since Dean... I love my country and care.. I may be wrong but they have not shown me otherwise with disastrous results.  More ranting below

McCain can't make connection Iraq & Our Economy

Mon Jun 09, 2008 at 09:38:59 AM PDT

The bean stalk is a great idea, but shall we become thieves? The Boss Tweed style of politics has been in high fashion during the past 7 years in King George's reign.  The questionable term evil doer's and their achievements have elevated to new levels and meaning under the current Bush administration.

We Really Need To Fix This Country

Sun Jun 08, 2008 at 11:09:12 PM PDT

I realize that the Bush Administration has become a pox on the middle class, and that corporations have been callously dumping jobs by the tens of thousands in order to preserve those fat paychecks for their CEOs, yet somehow I missed this:

In August of 2006, Northwest Airlines laid off 1,000 machinists and other union members to shave labor spending by $1.4 Billion in order to get out of bankruptcy. One of the things they gave out to some workers to help them through their tough times ahead was a booklet with a list entitled, "101 Ways To Save Money."

Oil Greed

Sat Jun 07, 2008 at 04:22:57 PM PDT

I just saw a report on the CBS evening news that well, frightens and sickens me...

In this report it was stated that there is more money in the oil market than ever before...and that it is predicted that gas prices could be $6.00 a gallon before the end of the year...

The New York Times Sells Out To Wal-Mart

Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 01:42:03 PM PDT

In a stunningly bold attempt to reframe a negative media narrative, especially prevalent in the online community, the New York Times falsely claims that Wal-Mart critics are cooling their complaints about the corporate giant.  In fact – all evidence is to the contrary.

The recent criticism the behemoth received over its lawsuit against its own brain-damaged employee, Deborah Shank, to recoup the money spent on her medical expenses, proved an insurmountable PR nightmare for the gluttonous corporation – culminating in March of this year – and clearly indicates that Wal-Mart’s critics are anything but quieting and if anything, continuing to take them to task.  (Much more below)

Eleven million reasons for Hillary to not quit?

Fri May 23, 2008 at 02:09:24 AM PDT

The question "Why is Hillary still running?" has been asked several times, but the suspected answer usually involves political power.  Ten days ago I blogged on wordpress about an article titled "Finance law may keep Clinton in"

A little-known provision of a 2002 campaign-finance law cosponsored by McCain prevents candidates who drop out of the race from raising money after the nominating conventions to repay themselves for personal loans.

If Clinton fails to come up with the funds by the Democratic convention in August and she fails to gain the nomination, she will be out the $11 million. If she quits before then, she may find it hard to get people to keep giving cash so she can retire her debt.

I really hope that it isn't as simple as that...

Republican Evangelicals Exposed By Insider

Thu May 22, 2008 at 07:59:27 AM PDT

You have got to watch this 5 minute You Tube video.  This should help to sink the Republicans in 2008.  We've got to share this video with all of our contacts and get this message spread across America.

This guy is one of them, and he's got information that most of us are not aware of.  The stuff he's exposing should embarrass and humiliate these zealots.  He reveals that they are even intentionally betraying their God and the Bible that they claim to love and honor, which proves that they certainly can not be trusted with our nation's government and our Constitution.  You've got to hear this and share it.

Coporate Greed and the Hall of Shame

Tue May 13, 2008 at 08:09:51 AM PDT

I know this is coming as a SHOCK to everyone here, but Kongsberg has decide to CLOSE another plant.  This one is in Sweden, again.  Wonder if they’re moving those operations to the new Polish plant or somewhere with even fewer environmental laws and lower taxes.  But hey, don’t take my word for it, take a read of ABN, below the fold

Virtual Oligarchy in Fiction....

Mon May 12, 2008 at 05:16:41 AM PDT

We have plenty of warnings in fiction (written and filmed) of what can go wrong when power corrupts. The Parallel outsourced Government or shadow government that we seem to have these days is an emergent property of unfettered self interest with no need of an overall brain in control. It appears to have evolved to basically be the real government but not according to any specific plan or timetable or playsheet of a cliche evil overlord or even a insiders cabal of Cabals.

With no real oversight or understanding of the powers at play and where they are going, each step, each decision based on the previous one seems to reward and certify the direction the movers and shakers think they are going. It is a virtual Oligarchy in that they think they are in control but actual movement and direction has no compass and is just the overall vector of all their own directions blindly combined.

There are endless warnings in books and films that illustrate the dangers of big evil corporations and government abuses but what good does it do? Without them I suppose we'd be even worse off. There are too many examples to try and even scratch the surface but wander though a few of them with me after the fold.
